Wedgetail Equine has been established to showcase the Waler as a performance horse with superior temperament and altheticism. Co-founded by Stefanie Winwood and Michael West, Wedgetail is working towards a bright future for Australia's own heritage remount.

Stefanie's equestrian career has spanned nearly her whole life in New Zealand, Europe and now Australia. After managing the stables at the Ecole D'Art Equestre (Schoool of Equestrian Arts) in Ecublans Switzerland under great riders and horsemen from Zingaro and La Academe Equestre, Stef returned to the Southern Hemisphere with a love of both Classical Equitation and natural horsemanship, injured but inspired to find a talented horse in a better tempered package.

After purchasing a couple of horses based soley on their conformation, movement and temperament and encouraged by Michael, Stef found that she had bought a Waler. It didn't take her long to realise that these amazing qualities were characteristics of the Waler and are commonly found in this consistent breed.

Michael is passionate about the preservation of this rare breed which is such an integral part of Australia's history. Mike is himself a talented rider, but without competition ambitions. He has a passion for the physical, psychological and emotional development of horses and manges the youngstock at Wedgetail.

Both Mike and Stef are passionate about the rehabilitation of foundation stock and wild horses.
